Underwater

NOAA, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, has a program that explores deep ocean ecosystems, called the VENTS Program. Within the VENTS Program is a group that researches acoustics using underwater recordings. Some of these recordings are publicly available.

Fuzzy Panda Recording Company is putting together a release by a number of folks, including me, using only sounds from the publicly available site as source material. That means that every sound on the upcoming release was made through the manipulation of the publicly available sounds.

It may sound kind of weird and a little crazy, but it’s a very cool idea. The release will be available through Fuzzy Panda Recording Company and through its bandcamp site for free.

The Henchman’s War

A show in March

Doug and I (together, Rind) were just asked to play a show in March. I don’t know any other details, but I laid down two conditions:

1: we have a CD done.

2: it’s not at a restaurant.

We’ll see.

Destroyer of Worlds

Destroyer of Worlds, one of my projects with Ivan Khilko, looks to be functioning again as a band of sorts. I sent Ivan some recordings I’d made this past weekend using generative music software (nodebeat and Otomata). I’d planned on incorporating some field recordings and possibly some guitar over them. Ivan had some ideas, too. He jokingly said we should call it Destroyer of Worlds – the Happy Album. I think we’re going to call it something slightly more ridiculous.

Here’s our first and only album:

The Transition, 3 years on

The Transition is my third ambient, improvisational guitar album. It came out three years ago tomorrow. It follows Bolivian Airspace Circa 1974 and The 22nd. If you would like to buy it, that’d be cool. If not, that’s cool, too.

I’ve been uploading some past Fuzzy Panda releases to the new Fuzzy Panda Bandcamp page, and let me tell you, Bandcamp really defeats the need for an actual website. At least between Facebook, Google +, and Bandcamp, I’m not sure why Fuzzy Panda is bothering with a website.

Regardless, my first (and so far, only) album with lyrics is available for download. It’s called Os Os and I spent a lot of time on it a few years ago.

wire strike death

I was sitting around my apartment today with nothing really pressing to do. I’d woken up around noon and spent most of the afternoon napping. In between fits of sleep, I recorded three keyboard improvisations through a delay pedal and a multieffects pedal. Here’s the result.
